Manila

Hopecity first made contact with Ps Mark and Christine Pedder who currently live and minister in a large slum on the ouskirts of the city of Manila, called Baseco.

Ps Mark and Christine are originally from South Australia, however felt compelled to move and live and minister to the people of Baseco after seeing such desperate need in their community. With over 100,000 people living on approximately 60 acres of reclaimed land, many diseases are prevalent such as Tuberculosis, Typhoid, Malaria, skin infections, scabies, birth deformities caused by negligently prescribed medications. Malnourishment, particularly of children, is also a rampant problem.

However, Hopecity’s active support of the work of Ps Mark and Christine’s ministry is helping these wonderful missionaries and their local team to bring hope to Baseco in the name of Jesus. Lives are being transformed through microenterprise, family and student sponsorship and church-based programs.

Our first visit was to Baseco in July/August 2008, with a second team returning in March 2009. Hopecity aims to continue to visit Baseco regularly to practically support the tireless work of missionary teams in the area.

How can I be involved?
